RESCHEDULED: For Times Such as These Seasons of Our Joy: The Radical Power of Jewish Holidays to Transform the World

In 1983, Rabbi Arthur Waskow published Seasons of Our Joy, an exploration of the earth and justice-based roots of the Jewish holiday cycle, which transformed the ways that generations of American Jews have understood and engaged with Jewish holidays. Now, a new book - For Times Such as These: A Radical’s Guide to the Jewish Year - seeks to do something similar for this political moment and for generations to come.

As The Shalom Center launches its next chapter rooted in actifests (activist festivals), we are thrilled to welcome Rabbis Ariana Katz and Jessica Rosenberg, authors of the newly released book, For Times Such as These, to join in a conversation with Rabbi Arthur Waskow. These three will be discussing the radical power of Jewish holidays to help transform the world, how the project of reimagining Jewish holidays for justice has evolved over generations, and how current generations might work together to breathe new life and sacred purpose into our holidays and festivals. The discussion will be moderated by Shalom Center Board Member, Rabbi Mordechai Liebling.

Inspired in part by Seasons of Our Joy, For Times Such as These serves as both a contemporary companion to the Jewish year cycle for radical Jews who want their lives and practice to be rooted in their political commitments, and also as an educational resource in Jewish tradition, holidays, and ritual. By registering for the event, you will receive a 20% discount on your purchase of the book. More information about the book can be found here.

Registrants will also receive a discount code for 40% off their purchase of Seasons of Our Joy.

This program is free to register, with donations welcomed according to your capacity. A recording of the program will be shared with all registrants a few days after the event.
